Rev. Robert "Bobby" Jones

The Rev. Robert “Bobby” Jones, 65, of Emerald Isle, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Carteret General Hospital.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and retired from civil service at Cherry Point after 31 years.

He was ordained as a Free Will Baptist Minister in 1974 and received his doctorate in Theology in 2000.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Elaine Atwell. He was the son of Glennie and Annis Whitford Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jenny Jones; two sons, Robert “Robby” Jones and Russell “Rusty” Jones; two daughters, Keri Jones Chernivec and Sheri Berry; one brother, William Earl Jones; and six grandchildren, Jennafer Williams, Chris Jones, Alec Jones, Tyler Berry, Zachary Berry and Devin Jones.

Elsie Toler Ireland, 1937-2009

Elsie Toler Ireland, 71, of Aurora, died June 29, 2009, at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern. She was a member of Dublin Grove FWB Church.

Born October 21, 1937, to Ohel David Toler and Blanche Jones Toler, Elsie married Ellis Ireland, who preceded her in death in 2006. A son, Michael, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Ellis E. "Bud" Ireland, Jr.; a daughter, Lois Griffin and husband Gary; a brother, David Toler and wife Peggy; two sisters Ada Smithwick and husband Frank and Ruth Riggs and husband J.L.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

MIldred Inez Wetherington, 1921-2009

Mildred Inez Wetherington, 87, died July 1, 2009 at Two Rivers Health Care in New Bern. She was born August 7, 1921, in Beaufort County, daughter of the late Thomas Kelly Walker and Minnie Cuthrell Walker.

She married Harold Whitford Wetherington on April 7, 1945. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1974. She was also preceded in death by a son, Harold W. Wetherington, Jr., and two brothers and a sister.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela of Tennessee; two sisters, Lena Taylor and Margaret Rice; her daughter-in-law Sylvia Wetherington; and two grandchildren.
